Prayer & Share Group - Sunday Evenings, 6:30 pm

Back in October 2009 when I began a sermon series on the Ten Commandments, I spoke of Moses ascending Mt. Sinai to spend time with God and to receive the tablets of the Law. As Moses went up that mountain, so I believe we, too, are called to do our own spiritual mountain climbing. We are to draw closer to God in that close relationship that Moses experienced. He came from that mountain with his face literally aglow with the Spirit. That experience is not just for Moses. The rest of Israel was invited to draw close to the mountain, but stood "afar off", but we don't have to. Through Jesus' life, death and resurrection and the presence of His Holy Spirit, we can do our own spiritual mountain climbing whenever we wish.

Our last weekend with Bishop Malcolm Smith has given us a perfect way to begin. On Sunday evening, about twenty of our congregation members gathered with Malcolm and decided that they would continue meeting every Sunday evening, gathering at 6:30pm for a nonstructural time of sharing, praise and prayer, but they do not want it to remain a closed group. Anyone who wishes to join us is welcome. We will talk about those places throughout the week where we have seen the Holy Spirit at work, share other testimonies and spend time in prayer for our congregation, our ministries and any other issues that come to mind. Please join us as we come together to see how Jesus Christ is at work through His Holy Spirit at First UMC.

God's Peace,

Jeff
